The Crankworx NZ 2026 Content Creation Competition invites students Year 7 and older to showcase their storytelling skills by creating captivating reels using exclusive footage from the Crankworx New Zealand media server.
Whether you’re a budding filmmaker or a passionate storyteller, this is your chance to shine and capture the electrifying energy of one of the most thrilling events in NZ. With different prizes up for grabs, including an internship opportunity and media accreditation, this competition is your ticket to becoming a part of the Crankworx New Zealand legacy. Prize(s):
Christchurch Winner – Age 11 – 15 years – One winner will be selected from this age group and will receive 2 x General Admission Passes + Christchurch Merchandise + have their reel shared on the Crankworx Social Channels.
Rotorua Winner – Age 11 – 15 years – One winner will be selected from this age group and will receive 2 x General Admission Passes + Rotorua Merchandise + have their reel shared on the Crankworx Social Channels.
Christchurch Winner (16 years and above):
- Internship Opportunity to attend the Christchurch festival in 2026 from 19th – 22nd February 2026 and will include the opportunity to shadow the following people:
- Photographer
- Videographer
- Social Media
- Marketing Manager
- Media accreditation to the Christchurch event for the week of the event (to freelance and capture own footage).
Rotorua Winner (16 years and above):
- Internship Opportunity to attend the Rotorua festival in 2026 from the 11th – 15th March and will include the opportunity to shadow the following people:
- Photographer
- Videographer
- Social Media Coordinator
- Marketing Manager
- Media accreditation to Crankworx Rotorua for the week of the event (to freelance and capture own footage).
Judging Period: 1st December – 7th December 2025.

Participants must be 11 years of age or older at time of the submission to participate in this competition.
HOW TO ENTER:
STEP ONE – CREATE YOUR REEL:
- Participants must create one reel using the footage from the media server.
- Each reel should be between 30 seconds to 1 minute in length.
- The reels must demonstrate creativity and storytelling through dynamic editing, engaging transitions, and compelling visuals.
- The content should highlight the excitement, energy, and adrenaline of Crankworx Rotorua, capturing the essence of the event, including but not limited to racing moments, athlete highlights, crowd reactions, and event atmosphere.
- Participants are encouraged to experiment with different editing styles, soundtracks, and captions to enhance the storytelling aspect and draw viewers into the Crankworx Rotorua experience.
- Only footage sourced directly from the Crankworx Rotorua media server may be used in the reels. Personal footage of the participant, or any other outside footage, will not be permitted.
- Footage must be used as is (without manipulation) unless minor edits (such as cutting for length or creative transitions) are made to fit the reel’s narrative.
STEP TWO – ENSURE YOU MEET THE CRITERIA:
- The judging team will judge the reels based on the criteria outlined below.
- Creativity (30%):
- How original and innovative is the reel? Does it present the footage in a unique and engaging way?
- Does the reel present the content in a unique and engaging way that stands out from others?
- Consideration will be given to the creative techniques used, such as visual effects, editing styles, and unexpected approaches to showcasing the event
- Bonus: Use of creative transitions, dynamic pacing will enhance the score
- Storytelling (30%):
- Does the reel tell a compelling story, that draws the viewer in from the first frame to the last?
- Does the reel have a cohesive flow and structure?
- Bonus: Clear, memorable and relevant captions or text overlays that compliment the story telling.
- Technical Quality (20%):
- How well is the reel edited? Are the transitions smooth, and is the footage clear and well-organised?
- Bonus: Effective use of sound design (eg. Synched music, sound effects) to compliment the visuals.
- Engagement and social media trends (20%):
- How likely is the reel to engage and captivate an audience? Does it evoke emotions or excitement?
- Does the reel capitalise on current trends or viral formats in social media (e.g popular songs, transitions or editing styles)?
- Does the reel lend itself to be shared, liked, and seen by wider audiences?
- The judging panel will consist of the Crankworx Rotorua Media, Marketing and Communications Manager and the Crankworx Rotorua Social Media Coordinator.
- Any judging decisions made will be full and final.

STEP THREE – MAKE YOUR SUBMISSION:
- All submissions must be uploaded to the specified platform above.
- Submissions received via any other platform, including but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook or Email, will not be considered.
- Any submissions received after the official closing date and time of the competition will not be considered under any circumstances.
