David Godziek and Johanna Nussbaumer Claim Inaugural Slopestyle Super League World Championship Titles
The first-ever Slopestyle Super League (SSL) Finals wrapped up today, closing out a the inaugural season built to create a pathway for emerging athletes and evens to reach the highest level of the sport. It’s already a success story in its very first year with new competitions joining the pinnacle of the sport this season, and new faces shaking up the standings all year long. There were two ways to punch a ticket to these Finals – the top three men and top two women from the SSL Regular Season earned a bye straight to Mont-Sainte-Anne, while the rest of the field qualified through the SSL Playoffs at Crankworx SilverStar. The event marks a historic milestone for another reason too: it’s the first-ever top-level Slopestyle competition held in the province of Québec.
Riders had signaled from the very first practice session on this course earlier this week that they were ready for a big showdown, and they had big things planned.
Johanna Nussbaumer Claims The Title In Run 2
Shealen Reno led the women’s field after the first run with 76.75 points, ahead of Johanna Nussbaumer, Lisa-Marie Blanc, and Michelle Neuner. Alma Wiggberg crashed on the wooden ramp and finished run 1 in fifth, opting not to drop for run 2. The field stepped it up in the second round: Michelle Neuner improved her score, while Lisa-Marie Blanc couldn’t land her final trick and scored a DNI (did not improve). Then Johanna Nussbaumer put together a clean, solid run for 89 points, stringing together a Suicide Barspin, Alleyhoop Barspin, Barspin Up to Toboggan Down, a massive 360 and a Backflip Barspin on the final feature, arspipushingShealen Reno off the top of the leaderboard. But she was ready to reclaim the top spot and started off with a combination of an X-Up, Tuck No-Hander, Barspin, that truly showed the progression Shealen Reno has achieved over the past few years. Going for a Backflip up onto the wooden drop, she took a tumble in the same spot Wiggberg had crashed earlier, resulting in her staying in second.

History Is Made As David Godziek Secures the Title
David Godziek topped run 1 with 92.5 points, just 3.25 ahead of Chance Moore, who came into the day hungry for the Slopestyle World Champion title. Lucas Huppert, riding a great season, sat third after run 1 with 88.62 – less than a point off Moore and ready to push in run 2. All three scores held through the start of the second round, when Lucas Huppert took a big hit off the flat drop, resulting in a DNI and him cementing his bronze medal. Dropping second-to-last, Chance Moore delivered a stacked run: Truckdriver, Backflip Oppo Tailwhip, Flare Can Can, Oppo 360 Barspin, Frontflip Barspin, Double Backflip Can Can – and capped it with a Flipwhip to late 360, a world’s first in competition, for 93.25 points and the provisional lead. That put the pressure squarely on David Godziek, who had yet to drop. And he delivered: Half-Cab Barspin, Cashroll Tailwhip, Flare Barspin, Double Tailwhip, Backflip Barspin, and a finale of Twister No-Hander 1080 into a Cashroll Windshield Wiper – another world’s first in competition – reclaiming gold by a single point.

With the Slopestyle World Champion title on the line, athletes across the board were ready to step it up in their second run which also brought a wave of crashes, catching Jack Feick, Nicholi Rogatkin, Shealen Reno, Lisa-Marie Blanc, and Lucas Huppert. Kaidan Ingersoll landed his first clean run since battling injuries before going down in run 2, finishing eighth with a strong 81.5 points. Nicholi Rogatkin looked to be on the path to gold with a banger run – Cork 7 onto the step-up, followed by a Double Tailwhip and Cashroll Whip – before crashing on the final feature attempting a 1440 – another world’s first he slightly overrotated. Axel Sparrman capped his rookie season at the sport’s highest level with a clean run for 86 points and fourth place, after only just landing on the map through the SilverStar qualifiers.
The course took another main character spot this week. Built by Velosolutions Canada in collaboration with Bas Van Steenbergen and Matt MacDuff, it was the perfect canvas for the athletes to get creative and go big, resulting in multiple “World’s First” and arguably some of the best Slopestyle runs in the history of the sport.
