A Day in the Life with Mike Ross

Former electrician turned full time pro mountain bike athlete, Australia’s own Mike Ross is committed to the dream of riding bikes everyday. The Maxxis athlete has made this his reality and he’s taking us along for the ride with what a day in the life now looks like for him.

Ahead of Crankworx competition, a typical day is kept on the simpler side to focus on training and upcoming races: “A typical day before Crankworx would start with coffee straight up to get me going! Check my emails and get some life admin ticked off, then out for a ride or gym, or lately I have been doing a lot of building and digging for our new compound! Home at dark for food and chill wake up and go again!”

Ross usually uses his mornings to ease into the day and then it’s off for a training session to make sure everything is dialled ahead of competition: “My mornings always start with a coffee, it can change between early morning spin class or gym followed by some porridge or eggs on toast while I flick through the socials and catch up with what’s going on in the world. When I’m going out for a training session I always make sure my bikes are working sweet and I have the right tyres on for the job. If I’m sessioning the skate park for some tech tricks, I’m using the Maxxis DTH tyre for all the grip and speed on the smooth concrete, and if I’m hitting the Slopestyle features, I’m having Maxxis ikons on for the extra grip on the dirt!”

Ross also makes time for a few things outside of the bike world to enjoy other passions and then wraps the day when the sun goes down: “I feel I have to take my mind off contests and stuff and just enjoy life. Outside of biking I really enjoy anything that gets my adrenaline going, from skydiving to go karts to moto riding, but I also have loved going to the movies lately and watching stuff on the big screen – wish I could play some bike movies in a theatre one day! A normal evening is usually coming home from riding or building in the dark, shower and food straight away, followed by some YouTube videos, then bulk emails and life admin to keep on top of it all. Big fan of a snack at night time watching some more videos.”

It’s already been a big week for the Maxxis rider with a bronze medal on the Crankworx Cairns Speed & Style course and he’s been training all week as the first alternate for Crankworx Cairns Slopestyle. Catch everything live from down under or watch it all again on Red Bull TV.
