RockShox Canadian Open DH Location: Whistler Mountain Bike Park – Spectators with a bike and a Whistler Bike Park lift ticket can catch some of the action by riding down adjacent trails to view races. Spectators without a bike can catch the finish line at the Timing Flats above Creekside. Kindly note that open alcohol is not permitted.

Straight down, no mercy, under the watchful eyes of downhill fans around the world. The Canadian Open DH course is a one run take-down of Whistler’s rooty single-track. Staged on the opening weekend of Crankworx, this is one of the biggest events of the festival, attracting elite downhill experts from around the world. Cancellation Policy
Entry fees are refundable (less processing fee) providing cancellation notice is received in writing to athletes@crankworx.com by the registration deadline. Registration deadline is July 14, 2024 at 11:59pm PDT. All entries are non-refundable or transferable after the registration deadline (even in the case of injury or mechanical problems).

Competitors who need to withdraw after the registration deadline should email athletes@crankworx.com to confirm their withdrawal otherwise they will appear on the start list as a DNS.

FIELD LIMIT
300 riders
No special provisions are made for Canada Cup Series racers, or others, in the event that the race sells out.

RACE LICENSES
The Canadian Open DH is sanctioned by the UCI and Cycling BC. All categories will require a race license.

The Elite and U19 categories are sanctioned by the UCI as a C1 race. A UCI license is required to race in the Elite and U19 categories.
UCI and Canada Cup points are available for Elite Men/Women, U19 Men/Women.

The U15, U17, Senior, Master and Veteran categories are sanctioned by Cycling BC. Either a Cycling BC or UCI license is required to race in the U15, U17, Senior, Master or Veteran categories. Competitors in these categories can purchase a one-event license through Cycling BC as part of the Canadian Open DH registration. It will be an add-on through online registration. One-event license fees are outlined above in the ‘Entry Fee’ section.

LICENSE CHECK
All competitors will need to have their race license checked by the Race Secretary during the designated check in hours.

LIFT ACCESS & TICKETS
Lift access will be via Creekside Gondola.

Lift tickets or a Bike Park Pass will be required and are not included in the entry fee. Discounted lift tickets are available for registered competitors.

CANADA CUP
The 2023 Canada Cup will take place at Crankworx Whistler. Canada Cup points and podiums will be awarded from the results of the Canadian Open DH race. There is no separate registration required. Canadian competitors can sign up for the Canadian Open DH and will automatically be registered for the Canada Cup per Cycling Canada’s rules and regulations.

Prize giving and awards will immediately follow the Canadian Open DH podiums/wards.

TRAINING GROUPS
Group A = U19 and Elite categories
Group B = U15, U17, Senior, Master and Veteran categories

TRAINING REQUIREMENT
There is a mandatory training requirement for the event.  Minimum 2 training runs must be completed during the scheduled training sessions and verified by a commissaire. Riders who have not completed the training runs during the scheduled training sessions won’t be allowed to start in Finals or the Seeding Run (Elite and U19 Only).

Riders must start all training runs at the official start gate.

FORMAT
Finals Only, 1 Run for the following categories: U15, U17, Senior, Master and Veteran categories
Seeding Run & Finals for Elite and U19

SEEDING RUNS
Seeding Runs are for the Elite and U19 categories only.

Seeding Runs are mandatory. If a rider does not start for the seeding run, they will not be placed in the start list to race in finals.

Start order for finals for the Elite and U19 categories will be determined by the results of Saturday’s Seeding Runs.

TIMING
Timing for the DH race will include laser timing for start and finish times and timing chips for on-course split times.

PROTECTION RULES
Full face helmet with peak mandatory for all riders. Gloves, elbow and knee protection mandatory for riders 15 and under.

HELMET CAMERAS
The use of a helmet camera is permitted under the following provisions

COURSE
Will be on the new 1199 track in the Creekside zone. Exact course details can be found in the 2024 Tech Guide.

Notice: Racers in the MEN | U17, WOMEN | U17, MEN | U15 and WOMEN | U15 categories will be required to ride around the following features:

  1. 36’ Wooden Bridge Drop – approx. 350m into trail
  2. Fall Away Drop / Rescue Road Crossing #1 – approx. 650m into trail
  3. Heli Rock Roll – approx. 1km into trail
  4. 35’ Wooden Bridge Drop – approx. 1.5km into trail

Organizers may update the required ride arounds for U15 racers up until the start of official training
