Crankworx Whistler: Lineup for Dirt Diaries & Applications for Deep Summer Photo Contest Still Open

Crankworx Whistler Dirt Diaries

Crankworx Whistler returns with a bang for its big 20th edition, August 8-17, 2025. Once again, the festival is set to showcase the very best in mountain bike creativity and storytelling with the return of two crowd-favourite competitions: the Dirt Diaries Video Contest and the  Deep Summer Photo Challenge. Together, these showcases will bring fans to Whistler Olympic Plaza for two unforgettable nights celebrating the heart, soul, and artistry of mountain biking.

Dirt Diaries Event Details

Dubbed “the Cannes of the two-wheeled world,” Crankworx Whistler’s Dirt Diaries challenges five invited filmmakers to push creative limits, delivering a 4–6-minute cinematic masterpiece that explores the life and passion of a mountain bike athlete. Highlighting the importance and abundance of our local mountain bike trails, each entry must feature the legendary Whistler mountain bike trail network and Whistler Mountain Bike Park, but beyond that, filmmakers are free to unleash their boldest visions.

With just ten weeks to shoot, edit, and polish their final cut, these creatives will battle for a $10,000 prize purse — including $5,000 for first place — in front of a massive live audience and a panel of industry judges at Whistler Olympic Plaza.

Deep Summer Photo Challenge

The Deep Summer Photo Challenge is a photo showdown where five invited photographers, plus one winner from the Pinkbike Deep Summer Wild Card Contest, will shoot, edit, and craft an epic slideshow in just one adrenaline-fuelled weekend.

Diamonds are made under pressure – and pressure is what these six storytellers will have plenty of in the first week of Crankworx Whistler. Unique visual stories will light up the big screen at Whistler Olympic Plaza on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, delivering six different takes on Whistler’s mountain bike culture with individual slideshows. The winning photographer will claim a $5,000 prize and join the elite ranks of past Deep Summer champions.

“We’re thrilled to once again partner with the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) for this year’s challenge,” says Brittia Thompson, Project Manager for Deep Summer & Dirt Diaries. “Through this collaboration, participants gain the chance to work with SLCC Ambassadors, deepening their understanding of the authentic Indigenous traditions and connection to the land — the unceded shared territory of the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations where we live, ride, and play.” This connection to place is a reminder of why creatives, particularly photographers and videographers, are so essential in the bike world. Their lens doesn’t just capture the thrill of the ride; it tells the broader story of community, environment, and identity. By framing the sport against the backdrop of culture and landscape, these visual storytellers help elevate biking from a sport to an experience, inviting audiences to not just watch but feel the spirit of the trails and the stories they carry.
The application process for the Deep Summer Photo Contest is still open, so don’t miss out and sign up here.

Applications close June 15 and the five contestants will be chosen by a jury. Anyone who didn’t get picked still has one more chance – the Pinkbike Deep Summer Wild Card Contest

This contest launches once the first five contestants are announced, on June 25, so keep an eye on crankworx.com, Pinkbike and @crankworx to stay in the loop.
