Giant ferns above, dirt gold below – get ready to get amongst some quintessential Rotorua terrain and kick off international downhill racing season at the all-new Redwoods Downhill race at Crankworx Rotorua. Part of the first weekend of Crankworx action, the race will take place on Sunday, March 18 in the famed Whakarewarewa Forest, following one of the area’s classic tracks. The Taniwha Trail (also known as the National Downhill) was originally built in 1994 by Rotorua’s MTB pioneers and features the full gamut of all that’s good in a downhill track, from technical steeps to big jumps and drops. The addition of the race to the Crankworx Rotorua roster adds another option for downhill specialists to make their mark on the first stop of the Crankworx World Tour, while giving racers, and fans, an opportunity to get loose and loud amidst the towering Coast Redwoods that dominate the area’s famed forest landscape.
