Canon Deep Summer Photo Competition presented by Regent of Rotorua

The Canon Deep Summer Photo Competition presented by Regent of Rotorua is a crowd favorite each and every year, capturing some of the best elements of mountain culture through the lenses of the brightest rising stars in mountain bike photography.

In 2020 the event will be held at an all-new venue. After three marathon days of shooting in and around Rotorua, the five photographers will come together to put on an epic slideshow event at Hidden Forest, nestled amongst the trees at Skyline Rotorua.

Following the Best Trick presented by Transdiesel finals at Skyline, attendees will be invited to “gondola up” and “luge down” to the venue. A complimentary beverage will be served on arrival and there will be a cash bar and light snacks menu available.

Grab your tickets today and get ready to sit back, relax and enjoy this very special show.

James Malone

Hey, I’m James, a 31 year old Englishman from Plymouth. I got my first real camera about 18 months ago and have been addicted to the pursuit of the perfect picture ever since. Since rediscovering bikes 4 years ago after a 12 year hiatus, I’m beyond grateful for the places two wheels have taken me and the people who’ve joined the ride. Here’s hoping I can make something memorable for deep summer and have a bloody good time in the process!

Jemma Wells

After growing up down the road from the majestic Whakarewarewa forest, Jemma seemingly took a wrong turn on a ‘long ride’; ending up in the Deep South, designing appliances. With an ever-growing trail network present on her new doorstep, riding a bike continued to provide some much-needed recovery time after driving a desk all day. Whenever the Dunedin hill climbs proved taxing, or her distinct lack of ‘steeze’ was about to be exposed, she thought it a good idea to pull out a camera as an excuse. Spurred on by beer and chips, and terrified of ISO above 2500; Jemma continues to experiment and learn, whilst ‘making excuses’ in evenings, on weekends, or any chance she gets.

Henry Jaine

Henry has had a strong interest in Photography and Film making from a young age but it wasn’t until 2018 during a break from competitive mountain bike racing due to an injury that he decided to focus fully on developing his photography skills and turned a side hobby into a career. With a keen eye for detail, colour and natural lighting, Henry creates original imagery for commercial clients across the genres of action sports, live music and architecture. Henry’s love and passion for Mountain biking is what truly inspires his work with his camera allowing him to capture and share the moments that make him feel most alive.

Thomas Falconer

Kia ora everyone! Stumpy here! It’s a real hoot to be able to compete in the Deep Summer Photo challenge! This photo challenge is a way to push the creative boundaries beyond my current daily grind!

With photographing people on bikes and witnessing a whole lot of love, I’m truly looking forward to bringing those worlds together to bring my artistic vision to life!’

Hunter Paull

“Since a young age, Hunter has had a keen interest in action sports and photography. After picking up his first GoPro at the age of 11 he hasn’t stopped filming and photographing his friends as they progress through a range of action sports. Now at 18, his main passion is film making within the world of mountain biking and snow sports but also is still a keen photographer. With a strong understanding of video editing, he is keen to mix his photography and filmmaking style to create a unique photographic slide show.”
