While many know Martin ‘Tintin’ Maes as a rising enduro star, the young Belgian rider, who started riding bikes at two-years-old, got his racing start in the slalom world at six. In fact, alongside a silver in the SRAM Canadian Open Enduro presented by Specialized as a junior, and two top fives as a pro, Maes continues to compete and find success in slalom at Crankworx. Maes began competing at Crankworx when he was only 15, taking on the enduro in Les 2 Alpes in 2013. “It was the first time I was able to see such a big event with all kind of riders. A few week after I went to Whistler and it was another dimension!” With four Crankworx seasons now under his belt, he says while competition is king at Crankworx Whistler, the focus for him is equally on having fun – his favourite thing to do after six hours racing in one of the most notoriously difficult enduro races of the season, the SRAM Canadian Enduro presented by Specialized? “Go for a lap at 7:30pm with your mates.”
