Whistler-local Jesse ‘Jmel’ or ‘Marmalade’ Melamed has been in the spotlight for years, despite his young age, as a local racer taking on one of the most gruelling enduro races in the world, the SRAM Canadian Open Enduro presented by Specialized at Crankworx Whistler. In true Whistler fashion, he started riding and racing at three-years-old. Growing up, Crankworx was in his backyard, but he says nothing can match getting amongst it as a competitor, an experience that set the wheels in motion for his professional career in 2012: “It was awesome. First time getting to race against big names…I raced the Enduro as a nobody, just some local kid who didn’t have any international race experience and no dropper post! Ended up 8th in Pro Men and turned a few heads I think.” The momentum he kicked off that year has only picked up since then, culminating in his epic second place finish in the event in 2016. “Getting 2nd was pretty amazing, but I love every Crankworx Whistler racing moment because I get to race in front of my family and friends.”
