Volunteer FAQs

Do I need a bike to volunteer?
No, you do not need a bike to volunteer. Bikes are only as asset for the Sports Crew if you are an intermediate to advanced rider and only if the event takes place up the mountain. Events in the Boneyard will not require bikes.

How does the volunteer application process work?
You go online and fill out an application. The volunteer coordinator receives this application and makes notes of your details and requests. A preliminary schedule is made roughly 3 weeks before the event and a schedule is sent out via email to everyone. If there are any issues with your schedule at this point, you must contact the volunteer coordinator as soon as possible to let her know so she can make the appropriate adjustments. If you are signing up to be a volunteer less than 3 weeks out, please allow 48 for a reply. If you have not heard back in this time, please contact the volunteer coordinator at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 604 938 7326.

What should I bring to volunteer shift?
It’s always best to take a look at the weather ahead of time and dress appropriately. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes to ALL shifts indoors or outdoors.  It’s also handy to have a backpack with you stuffed with the following things: hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, camera, sweater (as the weather temp does change throughout the day), umbrella (can be used in sunny weather as shade or rainy weather for protection).

Can I volunteer if I’m under 18?
Yes, you can but you’ll need to submit a waiver signed by a parent or guardian before or at your 1st shift. You can print off the waiver ahead of time here: http://media.intrawest.com/whistler/bike/bike_pass_card_waiver_current.pdf

Is there free accommodation provided for volunteers?
No, there is no free accommodation provided for volunteers but we have teamed up with the Athlete's Village in Function Junction to provide affordable accommodation. For more information, please contact Brady Smith at 604 964 0041 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

How long are the shifts?
The volunteer shifts range anywhere from 3-8 hours in length. You’ll receive a schedule ahead of time confirming your shift lengths as well as the area you’re assigned to.

Will I be outside all day?
Depending on where you were placed you may be indoors or outdoors. Even if you’re signed up for an indoor shift, I would be prepared to be outdoors as sometimes your responsibilities will require you to work outside.

Where do I check in for my first shift?
The event office is located at the Aava Hotel 4005 Whistler Way, Whistler BC, V0N1B4 1 (800) 663 5644. Once in the lobby, our offices are located to the right. Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start time indicated on your schedule.

What are the different areas I can volunteer for?
Sport operations, Production, Expo, Event office, Competitor Relations, Timing assistant (must be available for the whole festival) and Branding.

Where can I park while I’m volunteering?
There is pay parking available in day lots 1,2,3. Free parking in lots 4,5, 6,7 & 8. We highly suggest taking public transit (more information at http://www.transitbc.com/regions/whi/) or riding your bike if possible.
